Fortum at the top in the Nordic climate index

Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) has ranked Fortum in the shared first place in the Nordic Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index assessing the disclosure of climate change information. Fortum ranked best for the second consecutive year
and received its highest scoring ever: 98 out of 100. CDP’s annual Nordic 260 report was released in Stockholm on October the 16th.

"I am very delighted that our efforts on climate change mitigation have been recognized again. I believe our success is based on our persistent work to develop carbon dioxide-free energy production and the fact that climate issues have been integrated into our business strategy. At Fortum we believe that there will be a gradual transition towards a new energy system – a Solar
Economy. Our view is based on the global challenges requiring the whole energy supply to be organised in a more sustainable way. In practice this means an energy system based on CO2-free electricity production, smart energy consumption and distribution, and high system and resource efficiency. Fortum's actions to contribute to the transition towards a Solar Economy include extensive use of hydropower, developing bioenergy, and active research in wave power, solar power and solar heat. In 2011, 85% of Fortum's electricity production in the EU was CO₂-free", says Anne Brunila, Fortum’s Executive Vice President, Corporate Relations and Strategy.

In the Nordic Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index, companies are scored on their climate change disclosure, and high scores indicate good internal data management and understanding of climate change-related issues affecting the company. The index comprises 26 companies and it is based on the analysis of the responses to CDP’s 2012 questionnaire, which focused on greenhouse gas emissions, emissions reduction targets, and risks and opportunities associated with climate change. The Nordic 260 report can be found at www.cdproject.net. CDP represents 655 institutional investors with USD 78 trillion in assets under management.
