SEAS-NVE - Launch of the Smart City project in Kalundborg

On November the 6th 2012 the official starting  for the Smart City project in Kalundborg was given, a pioneering project to translate theory and engineering in real solutions. Initially, for the benefit of citisens in Kalundborg Municipality only, but in the long term, it is predicted that the results could be transferred to all the municipalities. Also from abroad, there is great interest in the project.

Kalundborg project must demonstrate in practice how a city can use energy as efficient as possible. This will be done by installing communication control devices for  electricity, water, heat, transport and buildings. The whole communication system will be built on an open platform for which a number of companies make their technology and knowledge available.

"The project is an important step forward regarding; better utilisation of resources, cheaper energy bills and the green transition, as already announced by government. The project will ensure that we will have fewer costs when it comes to expanding the electricity grid, so we can get even more wind in our electricity supply, "said Jesper Hjulmand, CEO of SEAS-NVE.

Partners in the project are now addressed to develop and demonstrate the intelligent platform that can effectively integrate and promote services in energy, transportation, building and infrastructure.

The project has 12 partners, SEAS-NVE, Kalundborg Municipality, Danish Energy Association, Spirae, Clean Charge, Clever, Gaia Solar, DONG Energy, Grid Manager, Danfoss, ABB and Schneider Electric. Several companies are global, and this helps to ensure that Denmark will stay on the world map, according to the Danish Energy. Denmark is already a leading European smart grid nation in terms of demonstration projects, with 22 percent all European demonstration projects on Smart Grids.
