The municipality of Syddjurs and NRGi in climate partnership

The municipality of Syddjurs and NRGi signed a climate partnership. The parties met at Valley School in Jutland, where climate improvements are already in full swing .

Climate Partnership Agreement between the municipality of Syddjurs and NRGi involves a common vision,  how to contribute to a healthy, future-proof environment. The focus is on energy saving measures in the municipality, and NRGi have a wide pallette of skills and knowledge in that particular field.

"As a municipality, we have some obligations to save energy, and we have some talented people who have good ideas for renovations and projects, who continuously support as municipality. But with climate partnership with NRGi we get an extra sparring partner who can help us fulfill our vision on climate change", said Kirstine Bille, Mayor of Syddjurs Municipality.

NRGi looks forward working with the municipality and its citizens, the collaboration makes good progress.

"As a cooperation, we focus on much more than only selling electricity. One of our most important objectives is to support the focus on energy savings and conversion to renewable energy, and we look forward to closer colaboration with  the  municipality of Syddjurs. By entering into a steering committee meetings we will have a thorough knowledge of the municipality and may therefore help to identify the best solutions to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions", says Søren Egge Rasmussen, Chairman of NRGi.

The municipality is part of the solution - the same businesses and citizens. Today's venue, the Valley School, is a good example. 9 million DDK in energy conservation measurements; new windows, insulation and Djurslands largest solar PV area  has been invested and the energy savings fill the treasury for the municipality, but it also has repercussions at school. Both teachers and pupils have a greater focus on energy conservation, as it shows. In some months, the school has saved 50 percent on its energy consumption compared to last year. Parents also report back that students take their knowledge of energy saving home. So it is both good for the economy and a great educational tool.

Focus on lighting
NRGi and Syddjurs also working on a lighting project in the municipality where luminaries gradually will be replaced around the municipality. In total, 5000 luminaires will be replaced over the years. Even at the school car park some major opportunities for energy savings are detected.

"By changing the luminaires here, we will achieve a saving of 75 percent. It is not everyone who can provide an equally large saving, but we expect an average saving of 50 percent when all luminaires have been changed. It may provide the community a saving of approximately 600.000 kWh per year", says Arne Gynther, Head of Roads and Traffic.

OBJECTIVES:
  • Lowering the CO2 emissions of the Syddjurs municipality  by 2 percent per year until 2025.
  • The municipality of Syddjurs will be amongst the municipalities that have the lowest CO2 emissions per citizen.
  • The municipality of Syddjurs will reduce its own energy consumption and CO2 emissions on an equal footing with its citizens and businesses.
  • The municipality of Syddjurs will provide a framework to increase the use of renewable energy in the municipality.
  • With these climate efforts, the municipality of Syddjurs wants to create favorable conditions for the growth of local businesses while creating value for their citizens.
