TELVENT - Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation Selects Telvent to Provide Integrated Weather Solutions to Maximize Smart Grid Performance

Telvent will help Tennessee’s largest electric cooperative improve severe weather outage management and response

Telvent GIT, S.A., announced today that Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation (MTEMC) has chosen its industry-leading weather technology to help maximize the utility’s ability to respond to outages efficiently and cost-effectively. Combined with Telvent’s innovative Smart Grid Solutions technologies, location-specific weather data improves outage management by quickly identifying when and where to assemble crews for faster power restoration and improved customer satisfaction.

MTEMC, based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is the state’s largest electric cooperative and the sixth largest in the United States. MTEMC began modernizing its outage management operations last year by replacing its manual system for identifying outages and dispatching crews with Telvent’s automated advanced outage management system, Responder. Because weather can have the single largest external impact on the power grid, MTEMC also selected Telvent’s proven weather technology to maximize Responder’s outage management capabilities. Independently-rated as the most accurate in the U.S. for the fifth consecutive year, Telvent’s weather forecasts along with real-time lightning strike data and storm track projections will be fully integrated into the Responder system, enabling supervisors not only to retrieve accurate weather and outage information simultaneously, but also to more accurately predict when and where outages may occur and dispatch crews in order to restore power more quickly, efficiently and cost-effectively.

According to Telvent's Chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “Integrating our industry-leading weather solutions into existing outage management solutions provides software essential to partners like MTEMC to help them achieve their goals of efficiently and effectively responding to outages and providing high quality service to their membership.”

MTEMC has used Telvent’s MxVision WeatherSentry solution since 2006. The seamless integration of real-time, location-specific weather data into Telvent’s advanced automated outage management system will allow MTEMC to further enhance its Smart Grid performance to efficiently meet the needs of its members’ expanding energy demands.
