UBITRONIX - ENERGY GLOBE AWARD

Ubitronix’ intelligent customer-oriented energy management system in use at the Austrian utility; Linz AG receives the coveted 'Energy Globe Award'.

With the regulatory introduction of electronic meters (smart meters) the customer has the availability of high-resolution real time data - in theory. Because the measurements are usually transferred from the meter to a central web portal and will be made available, in the form of graphics, the following day. An issue that occupied the power management specialists of Ubitronix, because in this way the benefits of the new meter technology cannot be fully exploited. The result is a complete new customer-oriented and easy to install system, which has now earned the Upper Austrian ENERGY GLOBE AWARD in the overall category of winners.

The central element of the winning system is a hardware component that is installed in the home. It records all on-site consumption data and helps the client to understand their energy consumption and to control it in an optimal way. Even local-generated electricity, e.g. from a photovoltaic system, can be integrated into the system. The user will have access to its current power status in the household over existing devices such as PCs, laptops, smartphones or tablets. "Being awarded for the Energy Globe Award shows that the consumer now participates in the energy transition. Our intelligent energy-saving solution makes the sustainable use of energy possible today ", declared Dr. Christoph Schaffer, CEO of Ubitronix system solutions GmbH, convincingly.

Ubitronix’ award-winning energy management system is based on the so-called Meter-server that captures readings of local electricity, gas, heat and water meters, not only historical data but also real-time data, so already a few seconds after the measured values were determined they are available for the end user. The measured values can be displayed via PCs, smartphones, tablets or even on new TVs. "Green plugs", they can be plugged directly into any wall outlet, capture the additional power consumption of household appliances, such as refrigerator or washing machine, and forward it to the Meter-server for further processing. Both meters server, Green Plugs have an integrated switch, so that appliances can be automatically switched depending on tariff or consumption.

Proper use of decentralised energy
Also local-generated energy, e.g. from a photovoltaic system on the roof, can be used more efficiently through load management. It is possible, for example the hot water or an electric vehicle, will only be charged when the solar panels on the roof will provide enough energy. Although the technology is complex but it is easy to understand for consumers, an LED traffic light system shows at a glance which equipment consumes relatively much power.

"The feedback from end users, for example those from the utility Linz AG, is extremely encouraging. Specifically, the visualisation of consumption data in real time and optimised switching of appliances support the end user in everyday life. They can concentrate themselves again on the important things of Life, "said Dr. Christopher Schaffer about the success of the system.

Energy Globe Award

In November, at the opening of the building & construction exhibition in Ried the Upper Austrian was handed over by Governor Dr. Josef and the founder of the Energy Globe Ing. Wolfgang Neumann. The price is not only a prestigious award, but also a valuable seal of approval for quality and innovation.

The ENERGY GLOBE AWARD recognises excellence in the fields of energy efficiency, use of renewable energy and the sustainable use of resources in five categories: Earth, Fire, Water, Air and Youth. Every year hundreds of projects from more than 100 countries apply for the Energy Globe Award.
