Telvent Announces Efficient, Cost-effective Smart Grid Solutions for Utility Companies Worldwide

Best-in-class solution, announced at the Microsoft Global Utilities Summit, aligns technologies with Microsoft’s industry architecture to create secure, easy-to-use smart energy infrastructure

Telvent announced  at the Microsoft Global Utilities Summit, that its alignment with Microsoft has created more efficient and cost-effective smart grid solutions for utility companies.

Telvent’s industry-leading smart grid solutions, combined with Microsoft’s Smart Energy Reference Architecture (SERA), allow utilities to easily integrate Telvent functionality on top of the Microsoft platform. This creates an opportunity for utilities to gather business critical information from multiple systems, which can then be easily integrated into their network. Utilities benefit from this functionality by gaining information that can be shared efficiently company-wide.

By allowing for open technology and easy integration of Microsoft and Telvent products, SERA allows utilities to navigate rapidly changing smart grid dynamics and create a secure network. This functionality is scalable, so it can be implemented by utilities of all sizes and easily expands to meet growing needs. The end result is an integrated network that not only maximizes network efficiencies, but also creates a lower total cost of ownership for utilities.

According to Telvent's chairman and CEO, Ignacio Gonzalez, “Telvent and Microsoft are leading providers of information technology solutions in the utility industry, and our offerings complement each other in a manner that allows utilities to make smarter operating decisions. Our alignment with Microsoft creates an opportunity for utilities to easily integrate multiple information-gathering systems, while ensuring the creation of a secure smart grid platform.”

“One of our keys to success in the utility industry is working with partners that address technology integration in a manner that enhances our strengths to provide scalable, simple electric grid solutions,” said Jon Arnold, managing director, Worldwide Power & Utilities Industry, Microsoft Corp. “Telvent’s knowledge of the smart grid industry combines perfectly with our trusted technology to give customers a best-in-class, yet low-cost offering.”

Telvent is leveraging the SERA framework within its own technology offerings for the smart grid industry including distribution management, SCADA, outage management, geographical information systems, and meter data management. Additionally, Telvent serves on the SERA advisory council, which focuses on turning mass amounts of data into meaningful information.
