Eltel expands to UK – Preferred bidder status to National Grid won with Carillion Plc

Eltel Networks – Carillion joint venture named as preferred bidder for the delivery of National Grid 400kV Overhead Upgrade Programme.
 
Eltel Networks and its UK based joint venture partner Carillion has been named as a preferred bidder in the delivery of National Grid’s electricity transmission network upgrade across the UK.
Eltel Networks-Carillion will work in alliance with National Grid under a framework agreement to deliver part of National Grid’s £22 billion programme of investment in networks up to 2017, including the refurbishment and upgrade of its overhead power lines and towers.
Martin Dahlgren, President of BU Transmission, Eltel Networks, added: “We are very pleased with this outcome and that National Grid has seen the combined value of our two companies. Together we can now build a solid and permanent position in this market.”
Graham Carr, Managing Director of Carillion Utility Services, said: “The potential of this agreement is hugely significant for us. Work on the upgrade will be delivered in stages between now and 2017, so to be involved in the framework from the start is extremely important. We are also delighted to be working with leading European transmission solution provider Eltel Networks. Their background and competence in designing and constructing transmission networks complements Carillion’s experience and proven systems in project delivery.”
National Grid’s investment programme includes refurbishment, upgrades and new build of its 400 kV transmission network throughout England and Wales.
The contract commences on 31 October with the Eltel-Carillion Alliance focussed initially on developing the organisational structure.
