Eurelectric and European Commission launch interactive map on Smart Grids projects

EURELECTRIC and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) have developed a joint website to provide public information on smart grids projects, www.smartgridsprojects.eu.

Smart grid initiatives have been growing throughout Europe for the past few years, and the website is designed to further support the transition to the intelligent power systems of tomorrow.
The website includes an interactive map giving an overview of smart grids projects throughout Europe. This mapping tool is based on the inventory and the related JRC Report on smart grid projects released by the JRC in 2011. The JRC smart grids inventory and the related snapshots will be continuously updated, and the interactive map will be developed accordingly.
Through the smart grids projects website, the two organisations will collaborate to overcome current knowledge gaps and learn from existing pilot projects, define success criteria and a value case for future pilots, highlight best practices to prevent inefficiencies and to accelerate the transition towards the future smart grid, and shape views and raise awareness of smart grid needs among public and private stakeholders.
