Vattenfall - KIC InnoEnergy takes innovation to the next level

Vattenfall is now a formal partner of KIC InnoEnergy, a results oriented company comprising the major European partners in the energy sector. The initiative consists of the collaboration between companies, universities and research institutes in Europe.

The international consortium KIC InnoEnergy will serve as a platform and enabler for Vattenfall’s R&D programmes, such as Smart Grids. As a member of KIC InnoEnergy, Vattenfall aims to take innovative ideas to the next level. KIC InnoEnergy is the brainchild of EIT, the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, an institute of the European Union.

“This consortium represents an excellent opportunity for Vattenfall. We can involve people in all our R&D areas across international borders in this project, and we can contribute to setting an international agenda and driving sustainable solutions,” says Ilka von Dalwigk, co-ordinator for European R&D projects at Strategic Innovation.

From idea to solution
Apart from Vattenfall, the other Swedish representatives in KIC InnoEnergy are ABB Sweden, KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, and Uppsala University. The primary goal for the Swedish division of the consortium is to develop smart grids. This project can help to show how research can be applicable in real-life situations.

“We will develop ideas into commercially viable solutions. The goal for KIC InnoEnergy is to ensure that applicable technologies are developed, as opposed to discussing extreme ideas that are never realised.”
