EURELECTRIC conference looks at Power trends for 2012
EURELECTRIC conference sees the launch of Power Statistics and Trends 2011, the association’s annual publication of statistical information from the European power sector. More broadly, the event will provide insights into the main trends of the year and the outlook for 2012, with the goal of addressing wider investment challenges for the sector ahead.
The newly-released report contains detailed statistics of latest trends in the European electricity sector, alongside forecasts for up to 2030. It describes major trends in energy demand, an increase in variable generation technologies and a diversified use of generation technologies. These trends will be discussed in greater detail at a EURELECTRIC event in the European Parliament in January 2012.
Today’s conference will take stock of energy policy developments in 2011 and examine the major challenges for 2012, including the EU’s legislative agenda and the development of individual generation technologies: renewables, gas, nuclear, hydro and carbon capture and storage.
Debates will highlight in particular the urgency of speeding up investment in power generation amidst regulatory uncertainty and concerns over rising electricity prices. EURELECTRIC calls for a stable, consistent, market-based and European investment framework and will kick-start an extensive research project on investment needs in power generation in 2012.
