Görlitz - Sails are Hoisted for Smart M
The Stadtwerke Husum Netz GmbH has set sail for a
rollout
A sailing trip on the high seas certainly is a very
special experience. However, before starting and the ship departs from the safe
harbour intensive preparations are required. In order to guarantee a safe trip,
the conscientious crew has to take various measures beforehand. This includes
not only setting up the technical equipment but also preparing the itinerary.
A benefit that the “crew” of the Stadtwerke Husum Netz
GmbH has already performed. Objective of the „cruise“: the extensive smart
metering in their supply area. The technological infrastructure has been
created and the utility in the north is fully prepared for all eventualities,
wherever the trip goes.
The Stadtwerke Husum is a regional multi utility
supplying electricity, gas, water (drinking water and industrial water) and
local heating. The Stadtwerke Husum Netz GmbH, founded in 2007, guarantees
sustainable high availability of the grids as well as a secure and permanent
energy supply. The staff members of the grid control centre, so to speak the
crew on board, are currently upgrading the grid and increasingly important
communication infrastructure to be prepared for future developments on the
energy market.
The energy supplier remains on course to modern grids
with state of the art technology. “In the future hardware will essentially be
modified. Today we are discussing about extensive use of smart meters –
tomorrow completely different meters for remote reading might be applied. Who
knows!
But the grids must be designed for this purpose,”
states Manfred Petersen, team leader of the grid control centre. The Stadtwerke
Husum is also setting in motion the activation of combined heat and power
plants and grid quality control from the control station.
