Eltel signs a EUR 23 million contract to improve power supply in Dar Es Salaam
 
Eltel Group has signed a EUR 23 million contract to improve power supply in Tanzania. The contract was awarded in a competitive bidding with major European firms.
 
Eltel Group has won a major contract in a competitive bidding to improve the reliability of electric power supply in the city of Dar Es Salaam. The project is implemented within the framework of development co-operation between the governments of Tanzania and Finland. The client is TANESCO, Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited.
 
The scope of project includes one new 132/33 kV substation and extensions of existing substations, underground cable network, new distribution control center building, SCADA system, pilot distribution management system, fiber optical data network and rehabilitation of telephony network.
 
The objective of the project is to improve reliability of power supply in the area of Dar Es Salaam by improving the transmission and distribution systems. The planned duration of project is two years. Planning and design activities included also Environmental and Social Impact Assessments.
 
TANESCO’s acting Managing Director Mr. Njombe commented during the signing ceremony:  “the project will help to address various challenges facing the company, including deteriorated infrastructures which cause energy losses”. Besides Mr. Njombe the contract signing was attended by the Finnish Ambassador HE Ms Sinikka Antila and Eltel’s Mr. Bengt Röstlund.
